Yeah, I dismissed her. Then, after I had completed the quest (sided with Dawnguard), I returned to Castle Volkihar to finish up a sidequest where Serana magically appeared as my follower again. I let her tag along. When I was finished, I dismissed her again… now I have no idea where the hell she is. She’s nowhere to be found at Fort Dawnguard.
If you sided with the Dawnguard she will be @ Fort Dawnguard. She sometimes glitches and goes to Darkfall Cave . But I’d check around Volkihar castle or Fort Dawnguard first (depending on the side you chose), as she normally goes to.

Since she doesn’t live with you it makes sense she won’t be in your place. And the castle would presumably remind her of her dead father so she isn’t there.
I dismissed her up at Winterhold after getting out of the Soul Cairn, because I found out I needed to continue with the main quest in order to get the second elder scroll and I wanted to do some other quests first without having to worry about her getting stuck on nothing every five goddamn steps.

Ok so here is an actually answer that might help you. Anytime you dismiss Serana she will go to the dawngaurd castle. IF you can’t find her there then she is glitched. Sometimes she will not return to dawngaurd even after you dismiss her. She will just stay were ever it.
